With such low yields caused by the devastating frost of April 2021, Domaine de Villaine made the wise decision to blend all of its red Burgundy plots into a single vintage. The typical characteristics of “La Digoine” and “La Fortune” are combined with the juicy flavors of generic Burgundy. The result of this 2021 vintage is an exceptional equation of quantity and quality, all at an impressive value for money.
Domaine de Villaine was established in 1971 by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine, also co-directors of Romanée‑Conti . Located in Bouzeron, Côte Chalonnaise, it became a benchmark for golden Aligoté, earning its own Bouzeron AOC in 1998 . The estate cultivates multiple grape varieties (Aligoté, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir), choosing sites by soil: Aligoté on limestone slopes, Chardonnay on clay . Winemaking emphasizes large oak vats with lees aging and minimal intervention . The result: terroir-driven wines that are vibrant, fresh and salivating, beautifully expressing the water and minerality of their ancient marine soils .
Domaine De Villaine Bouzeron 2022 comes from Aligoté vines located on the best slopes of the Appellation. Since settling in Bouzeron in 1973, the estate has selected the very old Bouzeron vines of so-called "golden" varieties which give smaller yields and finer aromatic wines.
Premier Cru Montmains has a very distinctive terroir: very stony, giving a wine with pronounced mineral aromas, extraordinary power and excellent ageing potential. Full-bodied, nervous and mineral, with good length on the palate. Straightforward and fresh at the same time, with exemplary concentration.
Grand Cellier is a daring Champagne, all in elegance with a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir from Premier Cru vines in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne. The wines spend 10 months aging in oak barrels to bring power and complexity.
