Morgeot was for a long time the flagship appellation of Chassagne. It is still very representative of the style of this village. The wines are more or less rich depending on the clay content of the soils and the work of the winemaker. The origins of the name of the appellation seem to come from the Latin Margo which means «edge, border». Morgeot is indeed located on the departmental border between the Côte d’Or and the Saône-et-Loire, corresponding to an ancient Gallo-Roman boundary.
