WhistlePig
WhistlePig Distillery – Reviving Rye Whiskey “Grain to Glass” in Vermont
Set in the rural landscapes of Shoreham, Vermont, WhistlePig stands for a bold ambition: to bring rye whiskey back to the heart of American craft spirits. Founded in 2007 by Raj Peter Bhakta, this 500-acre farm distillery embodies the “grain-to-glass” philosophy, where all core components — grain, water, and wood — originate from the estate itself.
The distillery officially launched in 2015, following the restoration of a century-old dairy barn, now serving as the hub where rye is grown, distilled, aged, and bottled on site, with barrels produced from Vermont oak harvested on the farm.
WhistlePig emphasizes its Triple Terroir™ approach:
Grain: rye grown directly on the farm
Wood: Vermont oak used to craft the barrels
Water: natural springs and wells from the property
Innovation lies at the heart of WhistlePig’s philosophy. The team experiments with extended aging, wine-cask finishes, and rare blends such as the 10-Year Rye, PiggyBack Rye, FarmStock Rye, and the 18-Year Double Malt Rye.
Today, WhistlePig is recognized for producing some of the most expressive rye whiskies in the world — rich in spice, oak, vanilla, and dried-fruit notes — while championing sustainability and the integrity of true farm-to-bottle craftsmanship. Each bottle reflects the living terroir of Vermont.
