Yamazaki Distillery – The Birthplace of Japanese Single Malt
Nestled at the foothills of Mount Tennōzan in Yamazaki, Osaka prefecture, the Yamazaki Distillery is Japan’s very first malt whisky distillery. Founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923, and commencing distillation in 1924, it was born from a bold dream: to craft a whisky that would resonate with the delicate palate traditions of Japan.
Spanning approximately 110,000 square meters, Yamazaki enjoys the gifts of nature — pure spring water, varied climate, rich biodiversity — all of which contribute to whiskies of elegance, depth, and nuanced character.
From malting, fermentation, to distillation, maturation and bottling, every step is done with artisanal precision. The distillery aims to let the terroir — the spirit of the place — be clearly expressed in each single malt.
Yamazaki is more than a production site: it’s also a destination. Visitors can tour the distillery, learn in the whisky museum/visitor centre, and enjoy the in-house boutique and tasting lounge — building a bridge between whisky enthusiasts and the heritage of Yamazaki.
