Meursault is the largest white wine-producing village in the southern Côte de Beaune, near Volnay and Pommard. Its name comes from a type of willow called "Marsault". Its ideal southeastern location, with stone and marl soils, helps create fine wines. Meursault wines are generally strong and often ready to drink earlier than those from Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.
